Kobe doing his best JCrew model impression wearing his wellies and his lobster shirt. Its quite the funny story to go along with the lobster shirt. We were at Kenwood and they were in their favorite store, The Apple Store. Usually when they get to pick a store I get a store in return. So we went across the way to JCrew. We walk right past the CrewCuts (kids) section, without a glance from either of them. As is the norm. They have their fair share of critter pants and button downs but have never shown any interest in picking for themselves, despite my encouragement, as is the result for most 4 and 5 year olds I assume. We continue back to the Men's section as Lincoln explains to me that since his trip to the Apple Store was abbreviated that I shouldn't really get to pick a store today. Just then the nice sales woman comes up, and asks Kobe and Lincoln if they would like to color. They of course nod in agreement as she heads back towards the dressing rooms. She brings back this large tray of coloring books and crayons, gets down on the floor, spreads them out and invites Kobe and Lincoln to join her. I give them the ok, but am skeptical to some extent as well, but she seems to know what she is doing. She encourages me to look around, I do, but keep a close eye on the happenings. Fortunately, that wasn't too hard, being they were sprawled out across the sales floor. I look for a while, and then a little while longer. I glance back, and the boys and Miss Congeniality are gone. My concern quickly turns to laughter when I gaze across the store to see Kobe and Lincoln, trying on scarfs and ties and the occasional sport jacket. Having a great time with their new friend. When they return I kindly thanked the sales woman and asked Kobe and Lincoln if they found anything they liked. Lincoln says 'Nope, lets go.' Kobe however leads me to the lobster shirt and a hoodie that he says he would really like to buy. Even on sale! That's my boy!
As we were checking out, I jokingly say to Kobe as he holds his finds, "Kobe I thought you were just telling me that clothes are boring." He senses my teasing and lets out a little giggle. "Well Dad, just not at JCrew."
Where are the TV cameras when you need them.
