On Sunday our baby turned three. It scares me because I don't know when that beautiful baby boy grew up! I still remember driving home from the doctor's office on Wednesday, 2 weeks before my due date, and getting the call from the dr: "We're just going to go ahead and schedule your c-section for tomorrow. Why wait?" Sounded great to us! And at Stephen's request, Stephen and I were alone for the birth--just the 2 of us with our little Lincoln. And when Dr. Hansel pulled him out and handed him to the nurse, the nurse said "Oh look at that red hair!" And Dr. Hansel started to say "No, that's just goop" but then caught sight of Lincoln's hair and said "Oh yeah! That's red!" Lincoln's red hair and blue eyes get alot of attention, that's for sure. But what I love most about him is his spirit. I love the excitement that lights up those eyes. I love the drama in his voice when he's acting bummed and downtrodden. I love the passion in his high-pitched "YE-AH" when you've just correctly repeated something to him that he said to you. I love his dancing--especially when he hears the words "swing dance" and startes jiving and snapping to the wedding band in his head. I love the stubbornness he shows--which will one day be determination. I love the rebellion he demonstrates--which will one day be leadership. I love that he doesn't do things like they should be done--which is creativity. I love when he walks into a room and stops when he sees you, throwing open his arms, cocking his head, and saying "A Hug?". I love when he says "I love you, Kobe" for no reason at all while they're playing. I love everything about him. And while it makes me so sad to think that one day I'll be saying "On Sunday, our baby turned 30"...I'm soooo excited to see the man that he will become. I love you Lincoln, and I thank God for bringing you to our family!
