And the winner of the Father-Of-The-Year Award goes to...

Bedtime has not been very pleasant lately. Both boys are still adjusting to their Big-Boy Bunkbeds. Lincoln, being the independent little guy that he is, has a difficult time staying put. Kobe, being the imaginative little guy that he is, has a difficult time staying asleep through the night because of all the problems that arise. (That's what he says when you go to answer his 2-in-the-morning scream..."I've got another problem. Something lifted up my arm."... or... "I've got another problem. Someone is making a pbsst sound")

Monday night was better...so before Stephen left for work on Tuesday morning, he left the boys a little note on their easel:

Congratulations! Today is your day! You're off to great places, My two who OBEY!
Dear Kobe & Lincoln,
CONGRATULATIONS! on being such good obeyers last night!
Lincoln, GREAT JOB! staying in your bed and going to sleep!
Kobe, EXCELLENT! being brave and not letting pretend things scare you!
I have left you guys a TREAT on my computer! (heart) Dad

The boys, of course, were SO excited to get the Spiderman cups filled with mini milano cookies that Stephen left for them. But they were even more excited to get his letter. Because tonight, as I was tucking them in bed, I asked them to make good choices while they were going to sleep tonight. And Kobe said:

"And Dad will say, 'CONGRATULATIONS KOBE & LINCOLN! kOBE, YOU ARE BRAVE AND NOT SCARED OF PRETEND THINGS. AND LINKIE, GOOD JOB BECAUSE YOU STAYED IN YOUR BED!'"

So hopefully, when we're having those moments where we think NOTHING we say is being heard, we'll be reminded that they really are listening. And loving their dad!!

Scene: The dinner table

Kobe, being unusually quiet, has his head in his hands, looking very sad.

Mom: What's the matter, Kobe?
Kobe: Nothing is the matter. I am just looking at my food.
Mom: Why are you just looking at your food?
Kobe: Because I'm tired of looking at you.

Kobe has brought new meaning to "March of the Toy Soldiers" with his rendition on kazoo, accompanied by Lincoln on a guitar playing toy.
