So many times the rain comes and we run inside and miss it!!
Tonight, the four of us were just hanging out in the backyard, when we noticed a windy relief from the warm temperatures. Stephen was pressure-washing the deck and picked up his pace a bit to try to get it finished before the rains came.
The boys and I decided to lay on our backs in the grass and watch the gray clouds replace the white ones! For 20 minutes, we lay there--and it was one of the most peaceful 20 minutes of my life. We couldn't hear traffic or neighbors or even the pressure-washer Stephen was using. Instead--we found ourselves caught up in the clouds...we could hear the rustle of every leaf as the wind blew through the trees surrounding us...we could hear apples falling from the tree behind us. It was beautiful. And the boys were so still--so drawn up in the moment.
And as the rain started to fall--we jumped up and ran inside...but ran straight through the house and out the front door to play in the rain in the front yard. We played in the rain until we were drenched and the lightning started getting closer. And then Stephen brought us all towels and the four of us wrapped up and sat on the porch, huddled together, watching the storm blow through.
Rain is so cool. Clouds are so beautiful. Evening sun bursting through the dark clouds is so breathtaking. And I spend so much time trying to keep things "nice" that I miss it. Tonight--I'm thankful that we didn't miss it.
And now I have to end this peaceful blog to go break up a fight in the bathtub. (HA!)

Kobe and Lincoln were happily chomping away on their bubblegum balls, which they had both earned by using the Big Boy Potty this morning. A few minutes later, I noticed Kobe going back into the bathroom...so I asked, "Kobes, what are doing?"
He cocked his head to the side, smiled sweetly at me and said "Well, you see, I asked myself if I could have TWO pieces, and I said YES!"

"I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long"
While Kobe's friend Ella is on the brink of burning bibles, Kobe is finding religion.
Tonight we had just finished dinner and Kobe had excused himself from the table. Wendy was cleaning up and Lincoln and I were chatting. I noticed Kobe, on the couch in the living room looking out the front window. It was a cute little scene. Then I heard him muttering a little. I assumed he was commenting on a car driving by that he liked (he often talks with himself). He comes down off the couch and approaches us at the table. Then he tells us...
K: "Mom, Dad, I talked to God."
S&W: "Pardon."
K: "I talked to God. He is in the sky."
I have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

Lincoln hit the breaking point last weekend while we were out of town. We came back and he had turned into a big talker.
Last night we were going over his A-a-B-b-C-c cards that are hanging on the door between the kitchen and dining room, thanks to Wendy.
"Lincoln, what letter is this?" pointing to the capital "A."
In his deepest scruffiest voice he proclaims "Big A"
Chuckling I say "what letter is this?" pointing to the little "a."
With the voice of a mouse he says "little a."
We get done with the C's and Lincoln happened to be wearing his Cub's shirt. I pointed out the logo on his shirt to him.
"Cubs" he said.
I asked him to look closely at the logo.
His eyes light up! "Big C" he shouts. He jumps up and down, takes off running and exclaims...
"COOL!!"
