In the car last night some how Lincoln was chewing on his shoe lace...
Kobe says "Eww Lincoln, you are such a shoe-eater!"
Lincoln brings out his evil laugh "Bwhhhaaahhaaa" and grins at Kobe.

I came home last night from work, and Stephen, Kobe & Lincoln were standing under the apple tree in the backyard--Stephen with pad in hand and dream in his eye! Apparently, Kobe said the magic words--Dad, can I have a treehouse?

So last night, in the dark, Stephen and PaPa Jones were out in the backyard until midnight, digging the holes for the posts and pouring the concrete. (Yes--it was dark, but with the hallogen light, the whole backyard was as lit up as a baseball park for a night game!!)

It was a great night for memories (maybe not for Stephen and PaPa, who had to do the manual labor, but for us on-lookers).

First, there was Kobe. As Stephen and Papa laid everything out and got ready to dig, Kobe had his hammer in one hand, his other fist raised in the air, got all excited and yelled, "YEAH!!!! LET'S BUILD A TREEHOUSE!!" (Have you ever seen that Extreme Home Makeover show? Well, Kobe was our little Ty last night.)

Second, there was Lincoln. Of course all he wanted to do was play in the dirt. So, having charmed all the ladies behind the counter at McDonalds earlier that evening, he proceeded to sit in the pool of dirt and EAT IT...just to make Mom and Ninny cringe with disgustment...then he'd just laugh.

Third, there was Stephen & his dad. I left the backyard scene about 9:30 to put the boys to bed. And when I went to bed myself at 10:30, I happened to glance out our 2nd-floor bedroom window. I sat and watched the two of them work for several minutes because I was touched. Father and Son...Papa and Dad...having worked hard all day long...now working side by side late into the night to build a treehouse for the Grandsons and Sons. It was such a cool thing.

I'm so thankful to have family. I'm thankful for Grandpas who help Dads build treehouses. I'm thankful for Grandmas who rush to the rescue whenever called (even w/o shoes on). I'm thankful for Aunts and Uncles who are there for the spoiling. I'm thankful for Cousins who will turn into Friends.

And I'm thankful for Stephen...for being the best dad in the world. Thanks for the treehouse!
