Lincoln's Social Debut

Friday night, a girl in my Sunday School class was in the Cincinnati Ballet Co.'s production of The Nutcracker at Music Hall. So I asked Lincoln to be my date for the event. He picked me up from work, decked out in his white oxford and red tie--looking dashing as always! We dined with Kobe & Stephen @ the five-star McDonald's, then dropped them off at the movie theatre (they opted out of the Nutcracker and went to see The Incredibles), and headed for Music Hall. Lincoln was entranced by the beautiful chandeliers, the little girls with their hair ribbons and velvet skirts, the Nutcrackers posing for pictures...And when the lights dimmed and the orchestra came together, Lincoln leaned back in his seat--arms extended on the armrests, feet crossed, head tilted to get a better view, eyes wide, and a smile even wider! It didn't take long before the music got him, and he danced and sang with each scene! He doesn't say many words beyond "This" and "That" and "Shrek"...but everytime the Nutcracker came on stage, he'd gasp "uh-crackah! uh-crackah!" I had more fun watching him watch the ballet than I did watching the actual production. And during intermission, he walked through Music Hall, charming the ushers...one usher even commented on how amazed she was that he actually sat through the first Act! When the bell chimed for the second Act to begin, we took our seats, and I chose to sit in a less crowded section so that Lincoln's singing would not disturb the others! Good move...we were 15 minutes into the second act, and I had just wrapped my arms around Lincoln, who had snuggled himself close to me, watching the international toys glide across the stage...when much to my dismay--Lincoln threw up. No, he didn't just spit up. He threw up--all over his white oxford, all over his red tie, all over me. No, it was not a ballet-induced illness--it turned out to be a nice little stomach bug he had picked up. But rotten timing. There we were--spending the second Act in the Music Hall bathroom, stripping lincoln down to his t-shirt (and losing the tie in the process). The funny thing was, he didn't want to leave. When I got him cleaned up, he asked to go back and sit down, so I wrapped him in my big scarf and we watched the end of The Nutcracker. And he clapped, and squealed, and clapped some more! He loved it!! And he hasn't stopped talking about the "uh-crackah" ever since! And I haven't stopped smiling at the memory!

Last year... our christmas tree was pitiful, and that is being kind. The place we had gone to cut it down for a long time deliver the final disappointing blow. We are lucky to have a room in our house meant only for that christmas tree come December. So when you have to put your christmas tree stand on top of a box just to get it within a foot of the ceiling, the results are poor.

This year we switched tree farms and have found one worth staying with. Every tree in our species section was easily a winner to take home. It was actually like choosing the best of the best. It was a short hike to get to all the different tree sections and they had a little golf cart and trailer to take it back down the hill for us, as well as the other two pieces of cargo we always seem to be toting around.

Here is the proof... and we are doing it Presidential Campaign style, the enemy gets black and white, the savior gets full color.

Along the same lines... I have posted our family's christmas lists here and added a link on the side bar in case you are one of the "lucky" ones.
