A funny story... A sweet story... and a picture. Kobe's day today.
Kobe and I are playing football in the toy isle of the department store and I asked him if he wanted to practice a couple place kicks. He starts to walk away for his running start and looks at me and says "You just want me to fall on my back and kill myself." (make sure you watch "Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin" if this seems more weird than funny.)
On the way home. At a stop light I look back at Kobe. He grins. "Kobe it makes me happy when you smile at me" I said.
We go on our way.
Stopped at another light I hear Kobe say "Dad, turn around, Dad, turn around." I look back. He has the biggest, cheesiest smirk on his face.
"Dad, Kobe make you happy" he explains with so much pride.

Saturday the boys, Pa Pa, GG, E, Wendy and I trekked down to the old one room school house. Every day of my Great Grandfather's formal education began here, the spot where he would eventually meet his wife, my Great Grandmother, who held a class of her own years later. I have been in this building times before. All the desks still in place, the wood stove sitting in the middle of the room, and markings still on the chalk boards. This time was different. The desks were gone, and only a dingy spot where the stove once sat. This time, however, was very special. Seeing Kobe and Lincoln playing with their Great Grandma in the place where my Great Grandfather once played was, for lack of a better word, cool. It made me think...
What is lasting anymore? People buy new houses made of drywall and tin studs that with a stiff breeze are disaster areas. New schools are being built that before Kobe and Lincoln marry will most likely be parking lots.
I want my great grandchild to stand in a place where my legacy will be in the dust on the walls and the creak in the floors. How do I create something lasting in a time where everything is disposable?

Last night, Kobe went to see his very first movie on the Big Screen! We bought some gummy worms and lucked into some good seats in the theatre, but we only used one seat--mine! He was too light, and his seat kept folding him in two! He did really well--he laughed at all the right parts and only talked to give commentary on what was happening! And on the way out of the theatre, he bared his muscles and karate-chopped the life-size cardboard cut-out of The Incredibles! Is anyone really surprised at his movie choice? (And before you say it, Pat Rock, Lincoln had his own special night...he and Stephen hung out at Best Buy and the toy store)
Lincoln had his 15 month check today... all is well. His benchmark info is...
24lbs 7 1/2oz
31 1/1 inches
He got 3 shots, although Kobe was shaken up more than Lincoln and did the majority of the crying.
The boy loves his brother.
